Kabaka’s Palace
Situated in Mengo – Kampala, this feature consists of two large palaces, connected by a straight road. Around the same area is a round about with a straight road in the middle. This road is only used by the Kabaka as the local superstition says he must not turn a corner while on this route.
Kabaka’s Lake
Situated in Ndeeba between Ring road and Nabunya road, Kabaka’s Lake is considered the largest excavated lake in Africa, was dug out on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga in 1880’s as “an escape corridor” to Lake Victoria, but the actual link to the big lake was never achieved as he was driven from his capital by Muslim dissenters.
Naggalabi Buddo Coronation Site
Situated off Masaka road, Naggalabi Coronation site is the historic heart of Buganda. It was here that the Kingdom began at the dawn of the 14th century and it is also at the same place that every Kabaka “King of Buganda” is still crowned to this day.
Kasubi Tombs
Situated off Hoima Road, the Kasubi Tombs are a huge dome like structure that house the remains of four former Buganda Kings: Mutesa I, Mwanga II, Daudi Chwa II and Edward Mutesa II.
The tombs constructed in a traditional fashion with thatch poles and reeds, house a variety of artifacts that belonged to the kings and is currently looked after by the descendants of past kings’ wives.
Wamala Tombs
Situated off Hoima Road, on the right turn 10 km from Nakulabye roundabout the tombs are set on a hill top. These Tombs are a sacred burial place of Kabaka Suuna II. Kabaka Suuna was not only a powerful ruler but also renown to be fearsome.
Mparo Tombs
These are the Burial place for several Bunyoro Kings including Omukama Kabalega whose grave is surrounded by many personal effects.
Nkonkonjeru Tomb
Situated in Mbarara, the tomb is a burial place for the last two kings of Ankole Gasyonga II and Kahaya II.
National Theatre
Situated in Kampala the theatre is home to a number of drama and dance troupes with majority being visiting artists.
Monday night’s is jam session at the Musicians club while Thursday is theatre factory.
National Museum
Situated off Kiira road, the Museum is a unique collection of ethnological exhibits covering natural history, war, agriculture, hunting, religion, witch craft as well as a great collection of traditional musical instruments from all over the continent.
Parliament
Situated in Kampala opposite the National Theatre is the Parliament of the republic of Uganda. The parliament is not only a symbol of Uganda’s independence but also has representatives from the army, people with disabilities, workers, women and youth from different tribes and ethnic Uganda groups.
Makerere University
Situated in Kampala off Makerere Hill Road is one of the oldest and most prestigious university’s in East and Central Africa. Makerere University is Uganda’s leading institution of higher learning with awards at the Degree, Masters and Doctorate levels in different disciplines.
Railway Station
Situated in Kampala – station road is a unique and beautiful building that has seen millions of people pass through its gates since 1931. Unfortunately the railway passenger service is no more though plans are under way to revive it.
